What this value means

RATE ROSE FROM 22 TO 24.5 PERCENT with the new Income Tax Act, 2026, which repeals the Income Tax Act Cap 52:01 (s 143) and applies from the tax year in which it came into operation (s 144(a)); the tax year is 1 July - 30 June (s 2), so the new rate bites from tax year 2026/27 beginning 1 July 2026. CONCESSIONARY AND SPECIAL RATES under Schedule 1 para 3: (a) MINING companies other than a diamond mining company in which Government holds an equity interest — the HIGHER of the formula rate 70 - (1500/X), where X is taxable income as a percentage of gross income for the year, or 24.5 percent; (b) IFSC companies — 15 percent on taxable income from approved financial operations, 24.5 percent on all other income; (c) mutual associations — 5 percent; (d) all other companies — 24.5 percent. Also: non-approved funds 24.5 percent (para 4), trusts other than a deceased estate in its first three years 25 percent (para 5), international air transport income tax 0 percent (para 8), and a new 10 percent withholding tax on repatriated profits of non-residents (para 6(i)). MANUFACTURING CONCESSION APPEARS TO BE GONE: under the repealed Cap 52:01 an approved manufacturing company paid 15 percent; Schedule 1 of the 2026 Act contains no manufacturing rate, only the mining, IFSC and mutual-association categories. Treat any source still quoting 'approved manufacturing 15%' for tax year 2026/27 onward as stale until BURS issues implementing guidance. NON-RESIDENT COMPANIES: the old Cap 52:01 rate of 30 percent is replaced by the single 24.5 percent company rate — a CUT for non-residents even as residents pay more. A Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax consistent with OECD Pillar Two is authorised to be introduced by regulations (s 142(1)(f)) but was not in force at confirmation. POLICY TRAIL: the 2025 Budget proposed +1.5pp on corporate tax and on the top personal bracket; implementation was paused after stakeholder pushback; the 2026 Budget Speech (para 116) then proposed a larger increase, and the enacted figure is 24.5 percent. CORROBORATING SOURCE FOR COMMENCEMENT: BURS' Tax Table and Guidance Notes 'EFFECTIVE FROM 1ST JULY 2026' is issued under s 142(1)(a) of the (new) Income Tax Act and carries the matching 2026-27 individual rates, confirming the Act is operative from 1 July 2026 notwithstanding that s 1 of the Act refers commencement to a Ministerial Order. ACCESS NOTE: BURS' consolidated Cap 52:01 PDF at /phocadownload/Revenue_laws/ is a pre-2011 text and shows neither the 22 percent nor the 24.5 percent rate — do not point a source-watcher at it.
