Fifteen public holidays in 2026. THIS IS THE AMENDED LIST — General Notice No. 611 of 2026 (PMO, 25 May 2026) moved GANESH CHATURTHI from Wednesday 16 September 2026 to Tuesday 15 September 2026, at the request of the Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation; any list still showing 16 September is the superseded original. Eid-Ul-Fitr is carried at Saturday 21 March 2026 with the standard PMO caveat that 'the exact date of this festival is subject to confirmation as its celebration depends on the visibility of the moon' — the caveat is boilerplate and was still printed in the 25 May 2026 amended notice, i.e. after the date had passed, so no separate post-hoc confirmation notice exists. Two distinct holidays coincide on Sunday 1 February 2026 (Abolition of Slavery and Thaipoosam Cavadee), so 2026 yields 14 distinct calendar dates from 15 named holidays. Mauritius does NOT transfer holidays falling at the weekend to the next working day: 1 Feb (Sun), 15 Feb (Sun), 15 Aug (Sat), 8 Nov (Sun) and 21 Mar (Sat) are simply observed on the day and lost to weekend workers. Movable dates (Thaipoosam Cavadee, Maha Shivaratree, Chinese Spring Festival, Ugaadi, Eid-Ul-Fitr, Ganesh Chaturthi, Divali) change every year and are fixed by the annual PMO General Notice, usually issued in the preceding November/December; the fixed dates are 1-2 January, 1 February (Abolition of Slavery), 12 March (Independence and Republic Day), 1 May (Labour Day), 15 August (Assumption), 2 November (Arrival of Indentured Labourers) and 25 December (Christmas).
