What this value means

STATUTORY FIGURE PAID BY THE EMPLOYER: Rs 17,745 per month for a full-time worker from 1 January 2026 — a single national rate; since the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Regulations 2024 revoked Part II of the Schedule there is no longer a separate lower rate for export-enterprise workers. Part-time workers are pro-rated under Parts I and III of the Schedule to the principal regulations (same Rs 17,745 reference figure). WHAT IS FOLDED IN, AND WHAT IS NOT: regulation 3(3)(a) makes the national minimum wage INCLUSIVE of the annual additional remuneration (salary compensation for inflation) — for 2026 that is Rs 635 per month for a full-time worker earning a monthly basic wage up to Rs 50,000, prescribed by the Workers' Rights (Additional Remuneration) (2026) Regulations 2026, GN No. 7 of 2026, gazetted 17 January 2026 (https://labour.govmu.org/Documents/Legislations/THE%20WORKERS%20RIGHTS%20Act%202019/The%20Workers%E2%80%99%20Rights%20(Additional%20Remuneration)%20(2026)%20Regulations%202026%20gazetted%20on%2017.01.2026.pdf). Rs 17,110 + Rs 635 = Rs 17,745, so the 2026 uplift IS the salary compensation. For an export-enterprise worker the minimum is also inclusive of any housing and food allowance (capped in aggregate at Rs 3,000/month) and of guaranteed fixed monthly cash remuneration, but not of variable pay. GOVERNMENT TOP-UPS ARE NOT IN THE VALUE: Mauritius historically split the floor between an employer-paid minimum and a government-paid special allowance — the employer-paid figure was only Rs 11,575 up to 2023 — and that gap was closed at the 1 January 2024 revision, when the employer-paid minimum jumped from Rs 11,575 to Rs 16,500 in one step. Ad hoc government payments still occur but are separate instruments and are NOT part of the minimum wage: e.g. the Special Allowance Act 2024 (Act No. 18 of 2024, Government Gazette No. 133 of 21 December 2024) granted a one-off allowance equal to one month's basic wage for calendar 2024, paid in two instalments in December 2024 and January 2025 — an employer-paid 13th-month-style payment for that year only, not a recurring minimum-wage supplement. Budget 2026-2027 (June 2026) announces no minimum wage change. ACCESS NOTE: the Ministry of Labour's National Wage Consultative Council landing page lists only up to the 2024 amendment and its Additional Remuneration Act page stops at 2019 — both are stale; the current instruments are reachable from /Pages/NWC-Legislation.aspx and /Pages/The-Workers'-Rights-Act-2019-and-Regulations.aspx respectively. Directory listing under /Documents/ returns 403. Next revision expected effective 1 January 2027.
