NINE national holidays, all on FIXED calendar dates — Mozambique has no moving religious feasts in its statutory list (no Good Friday, no Eid, no Easter). Art. 105 n.º 2 verbatim: 1 de Janeiro – Ano novo; 3 de Fevereiro – Dia dos Heróis Moçambicanos; 7 de Abril – Dia da Mulher Moçambicana; 1 de Maio – Dia Internacional do Trabalhador; 25 de Junho – Dia da Independência Nacional; 7 de Setembro – Dia dos Acordos de Lusaka; 25 de Setembro – Dia das Forças Armadas; 4 de Outubro – Dia da Paz e Reconciliação Nacional; 25 de Dezembro – Dia da Família. THE SUNDAY RULE IS THE TRAP: Art. 105 n.º 6 provides that whenever a holiday falls on a SUNDAY the suspension of work is deferred to the following day (Monday) — except for the continuous-operation activities in n.º 4. In 2026 exactly one holiday is affected: 4 October is a Sunday, so the observed non-working day is Monday 5 October 2026. All other 2026 dates fall on weekdays (1 Jan Thu, 3 Feb Tue, 7 Apr Tue, 1 May Fri, 25 Jun Thu, 7 Sep Mon, 25 Sep Fri, 25 Dec Fri) and there is NO Saturday-to-Monday transfer in Mozambican law. Two further traps: (a) Art. 105 n.º 2 opens with 'sem prejuízo de outros que forem fixados por lei' — additional holidays can be created by separate law, and MUNICIPAL holidays (each município's city day) exist alongside this national list and are NOT included here; (b) Art. 105 n.º 4 excludes from the right to suspend work a long list of essential activities (medical and pharmacy services, water/energy/fuel supply, post and telecoms, funeral services, loading of perishables, air-traffic and meteorological control, fire brigades, sanitation, private security, continuous-process large-scale industry, transport, hotels and restaurants, port handling and toll roads); workers in those sectors are paid at the 'trabalho excepcional' rate instead (Art. 98) and get a compensating rest day within three days. Art. 106 additionally lets the Labour Minister grant discretionary 'tolerância de ponto' days at not less than two days' notice — these are ad hoc, not statutory, and are not listed here. Art. 105 n.º 3 voids any collective or individual contract clause that sets holidays on different dates. The gazette text was read from the copy of Lei n.º 13/2023 published by INSS (a government institute under the Ministério do Trabalho, Género e Acção Social); the Ministry's own site mitess.gov.mz did not resolve at confirmation. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-30): the nine national feriados of Artigo 105 of Lei n.º 13/2023 de 25 de Agosto, the new Labour Law, which REVOKED Lei 23/2007 (so the older article numbering no longer applies). Art. 105(6) defers a feriado only when it coincides with a SUNDAY, and no Mozambican feriado falls on a Sunday in 2027, so there are no deferrals at all this year; Labour Day, Armed Forces Day and Family Day fall on Saturdays and are not moved. NOT SERVED: 10 November (Dia da Cidade de Maputo) is absent from art. 105(2), which applies 'em todo o território nacional', so it is a Maputo City day rather than a national one. Two further cautions: Good Friday and Easter are NOT feriados in Mozambique - they are granted, if at all, as tolerância de ponto - and the Labour Minister may grant tolerância de ponto on as little as two days' notice under art. 106, which is structurally unforecastable.
