What this value means

Assessed on the company's accounting/tax year. From 2026-01-01 companies income tax is imposed under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 (repealing the Companies Income Tax Act), administered by the Nigeria Revenue Service (formerly FIRS). The 30% headline rate applies to companies 'other than small'; the Act carries a provision to reduce it to 25% by a future presidential order on the advice of the National Economic Council — NOT yet in force as of 2026-07-17. SMALL COMPANIES (gross turnover <= NGN 50,000,000 and total fixed assets <= NGN 250,000,000, excluding professional-services firms) are taxed at 0% and exempt from capital gains tax and the development levy — CONTEXT; the value here is the standard large-company rate. Separately the old Tertiary Education Tax (was 3% of assessable profit) and several other levies are consolidated into a new 4%-of-assessable-profit DEVELOPMENT LEVY, and a 15% minimum effective tax rate applies to companies with turnover >= NGN 50bn or in-scope multinational groups. (The NGN 100m turnover figure sometimes quoted is the separate VAT small-business threshold under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, not the CIT one.) Rate/definition read from EY 'Nigeria Tax Act 2025 highlights' and PwC Worldwide Tax Summaries (reviewed 29 May 2026); the NTA 2025 gazette PDF exceeds automated fetch limits so is cited as legal basis.
