What this value means
Art. 1 of Loi n. 2-94 lists exactly NINE fetes legales: 1 January, Easter Monday, 1 May, Ascension Thursday, Whit Monday, 10 June, 15 August, 1 November, 25 December. NO SUBSTITUTION / MONDAYISATION RULE EXISTS in the law - a holiday falling on a weekend is simply lost. That matters in 2026: 15 August falls on a Saturday and 1 November on a Sunday, and neither is moved. Movable feasts computed from Easter Sunday 5 April 2026 (Gregorian): Easter Monday 6 April, Ascension 14 May (Thursday, independently corroborated by Congolese press reporting the government declaring 14 May 2026 ferie, chome et paye), Whit Monday 25 May. DELIBERATE EXCLUSION: 28 November ('Jour de la Republique') appears on several commercial holiday aggregators for Congo but is NOT in art. 1 of Loi n. 2-94 and we found no amending law or arrete establishing it - it is therefore excluded rather than shipped unsourced. Art. 2 empowers the Minister of Labour to declare ADDITIONAL days chomes and/or feries by arrete for important events, so ad-hoc extra days can and do appear during the year; this list covers only the standing statutory days. Congo is majority-Christian and the statutory list contains NO Islamic holidays, so no moon-sighting provisionality applies. ACCESS QUIRK: the 1994 law is a typewriter-era SCAN with heavy strikethrough annotations, no text layer - rendered to image and read visually. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-30): the jours fériés of Loi n° 2-94 du 1er mars 1994, still in force. Congo-Brazzaville has NO substitution rule of any kind, so a holiday falling on a weekend is simply lost - which in 2027 costs Labour Day and Christmas (both Saturdays) and the Fête nationale of 15 August (a Sunday). NOT SERVED: 28 November (Journée de la République) is absent from art. 1er and no instrument conferring férié status was located, so it is not listed; it falls on a Sunday in 2027 in any case. The Labour Minister may declare bridge days by arrêté under art. 2 and none is proclaimed for 2027.
