What this value means
INFLATION IS RISING SHARPLY AND THE JUMP IS RECENT — do not read Mozambique as a low-inflation country from stale data. The YoY rate ran 3.0% in Jan 2026, 3.2% Feb, 3.4% Mar, 4.4% Apr, then jumped to 7.22% in May and 7.51% in June 2026. BdM and INE attribute the increase to the TRANSPORT and FOOD & NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES divisions; the CPMO's May 2026 communiqué links it to Middle East conflict-driven fuel prices, intermittent fuel supply, imported inflation and the Q1-2026 floods, and warns inflation 'poderá atingir dois dígitos'. Other June 2026 detail from INE: MoM only +0.20%, so the YoY rise is largely a base effect plus the May step; accumulated Jan-Jun 2026 +5.40%; 12-month moving average 4.57%. INE also publishes city indices, which diverge widely — June 2026 YoY: Nampula 7.29%, Beira 6.25%, Maputo 4.16%; the national figure is the one served here.
