What this value means
TRAP CORRECTED - a widely repeated figure of 150,000 XAF is NOT the SMIG. Article 2 of Decret n° 855/PR/MTE fixes the SMIG at 'quatre-vingt mille francs par mois' (80,000 XAF/month) across the whole national territory, for BOTH the general regime and the agricultural regime; article 6 gives it effect from 1 October 2006, abrogating Decret n° 1036/PR/MTE du 19 juin 1985. It has not been revalued since. The 150,000 XAF figure is the separate REVENU MINIMUM MENSUEL (RMM), introduced by Decret n° 127/PR/MTEPS du 23 avril 2010: the RMM is a minimum total monthly income floor comprising the SMIG PLUS mandatory allowances (housing, transport, seniority), not a base-wage rate; it is a distinct instrument and is not served as the minimum wage here. I could NOT load the RMM decree itself from a primary source, so the RMM is described but not served. A revalorisation of the SMIG to 150,000 XAF was announced by the CTRI transitional authorities after the August 2023 takeover, but no decree formalising it has been issued or published - the 2006 decree remains the instrument in force as of 2026-07-20. Hours basis (art. 3): the SMIG is computed on 6 hours 40 minutes/day, i.e. 40 hours/week, for general-regime activities, and 8 hours/day, i.e. 48 hours/week, for agricultural and assimilated activities - so the agricultural hourly equivalent is materially lower for the same monthly figure. Under-payment is penalised via art. 195 of the Labour Code. History is empty: the immediately prior instrument was Decret n° 1036/PR/MTE du 19 juin 1985, but its amount is recited nowhere in the 2006 decree and I could not load the 1985 text, so no prior value is asserted. ACCESS QUIRK: no Gabonese government site serves this decree; the citation is a faithful scanned reproduction of the Hebdo Informations gazette text hosted by a Gabonese economics archive, and its authenticity is supported by the full recital chain, article text and ministerial signatures being present.
