What this value means
LONG PUBLICATION LAG — the brief was right to flag it. As of 24 July 2026 the newest ONS consumer-price bulletin is the one for APRIL 2026, i.e. roughly a three-month lag; May and June 2026 are not published. Any Algerian inflation figure for a more recent month is a forecast or a press estimate, not an ONS release. WHICH NUMBER IS WHICH — three different 'Algerian inflation' figures circulate for the same month and they are all in this one bulletin: (1) NATIONAL index YoY = +4.90 % (served here, index level 324.24); (2) VILLE D'ALGER index YoY = +5.21 % (index level 305.24, monthly change +0.44 %) — the Algiers-only index is what the Banque d'Algérie republishes and what many aggregators quote as 'Algeria CPI'; (3) « rythme d'inflation annuel » = +1.2 %, the twelve-month moving average (May 2025–Apr 2026 over May 2024–Apr 2025) for Algiers, which is the figure Algerian officials normally cite as 'le taux d'inflation'. The gap between (2)/(1) and (3) is unusually wide in April 2026 because of a +3.5 % single-month jump in March 2026 after a deflationary mid-2025. Composition in April 2026 (national): food and non-alcoholic beverages +2.16 % YoY, but 'Divers (N.D.A.)' +25.32 % YoY and manufactured goods +11.09 % YoY (Algiers) dominate the headline; fresh vegetables +32.1 % and fresh fruit +29.6 % YoY against potatoes -35.4 %. HISTORY IS DELIBERATELY EMPTY: ONS does not archive prior monthly bulletins — its site replaces the CPI page in place (spip.php?article3129) and older IPC_<Month><Year>.pdf filenames 404 — so no back series of the NATIONAL YoY can be cited to an official primary source from this location. A long official back-run exists but only for the ALGIERS index: the Banque d'Algérie republishes the ONS Algiers series (index base 2001, Jan 2002 – Feb 2026) and the twelve-month-average inflation series (2004 – Feb 2026) as spreadsheets at https://www.bank-of-algeria.dz/IPC-et-inflation/. Do not splice those Algiers figures into this national series. ACCESS WARNING: www.ons.dz presents an incomplete TLS chain to clients without the intermediate certificate; the site itself is reachable and the PDFs have a proper text layer.
