What this value means

Year-on-year (glissement annuel) rate for May 2026: 2.7%, up from 2.1% in April 2026 and down from 3.3% in May 2025. Month-on-month +0.9%, the largest monthly rise of 2026, driven by food (+2.3% m/m; vegetables +6.1%, fish and seafood +4.6%, meat +1.6%). Twelve-month moving-average inflation, the measure used against the CEMAC convergence criterion, stood at 2.6% (vs 2.7% the previous month and 4.2% a year earlier) and remains below the 3% community threshold. Core inflation (excluding fresh produce and energy) was 1.6%. Inflation is mainly domestic: locally produced goods and services +3.1% y/y vs +1.3% for imports. Wide regional dispersion, from -0.7% in Maroua to +4.2% in Bertoua (Yaounde 3.0%, Douala 2.4%). INS flags an upside risk from Persian Gulf tensions: the import cost of diesel rose from 489.72 to 786.93 XAF/litre between February and May 2026 (+60.7%), super from 422.71 to 564.56 XAF/litre (+33.6%). May 2026 is the latest month published as at 2026-07-20; no June 2026 note was online. ACCESS QUIRK: INS publishes only French PDFs on a WordPress site (ins-cameroun.cm); the uploads directory is slow and downloads frequently truncate - use resumable requests. Category listing pages return HTTP 404/500 intermittently, so notes are best located by direct file URL. The published PDF carries a stale cover page still headed 'PUBLICATION MENSUELLE N°01/26 ... Mois de janvier 2026' above the correct May 2026 heading; the body and Tableau 1 are unambiguously May 2026.
