What this value means

May 2026 is the latest month published by INSD as at 20 July 2026; the June 2026 note was not yet online. Figures are taken from INSD's own published workbook at full precision, not rounded press summaries. May 2026: index 105.0035 (base 100 = 2023), month-on-month +1.3278%, three-month +1.5183%, year-on-year +0.1246% - rounded to 0.12% here. Comparator index level May 2025 = 104.8728. The sharp m/m jump with a near-zero y/y reading is the seasonal lean-period food spike arriving on top of an already high May 2025 base: fresh products +4.74% m/m (still -1.93% y/y), meat +9.92% m/m and +18.10% y/y, tubers/plantains +9.26% m/m, while bread and cereals sit at -13.92% y/y. Core inflation (hors energie et produits frais) is +0.37% y/y and energy +3.13% y/y, so headline is being held down almost entirely by cereals. This is Burkina Faso's OWN national IHPC from INSD - it is not the UEMOA aggregate and not a neighbour's series. For scale, INSD's Tableau 2 puts the UEMOA-wide index at +0.02% y/y in April 2026 and the combined Burkina/Mali/Niger (AES) sub-aggregate at -2.04% y/y. Methodology: base 2023 replaced base 2014; coverage is all 13 administrative regions, about 838 products across 3,951 observation points. Access note: INSD publishes these notes as Excel workbooks (recent months .xlsx, earlier months legacy .xls) and sometimes PDF; www.insd.bf HTML pages render as a navigation shell to fetchers, so the file URLs under /sites/default/files/YYYY-MM/ must be used directly, and the folder month is the PUBLICATION month, not the reference month. Some month/extension combinations return an HTTP 200 HTML error page rather than a 404 - verify the payload is a real workbook. UPDATE (ops reconfirm 2026-08-29): re-downloaded INSD May 2026 workbook; Tableau 1 INDICE GLOBAL y/y still 0.124615... (served 0.12%). June and July NOTE_IHPC paths under 2026-07/ and 2026-08/ return 404. May remains latest published month.
