What this value means
Reference month May 2026 — the latest published as of 2026-07-16; ESS publishes with a ~5-6 week lag and the June bulletin was not yet out (CPI listing page https://ess.gov.et/price/ last updated 8 July 2026). Country-wide general (headline) inflation 13.4% YoY (food 15.0%, non-food 11.1%), MoM +1.7%. Bulletins label months by Ethiopian fiscal year ('May EFY2018' = May 2026 GC); index reference period Dec 2009 EFY (~Dec 2016 GC) = 100, with a rebase to 2025=100 planned. This 13.4% print is the figure NBE cited when hiking its policy rate to 16% on 13 July 2026. Caution: the ESS site now lives at ess.gov.et (statsethiopia.gov.et did not resolve at verification time), and the May bulletin's own trend table mislabels April as 'May' — per-month figures here are taken from each month's own bulletin summary instead.
