Ethiopia has no enforceable national statutory minimum wage for the private sector. Labour Proclamation No. 1156/2019, Article 55(2), delegates minimum-wage setting to a tripartite Wage Board to be constituted by a Council of Ministers regulation — which has not established a binding national figure.

Served as null rather than a guess: no enforceable national statutory minimum wage exists for private-sector workers. Article 55(2) provides that 'A Regulation of the Council of Ministers shall determine the powers and responsibilities of a Wage Board ... that will periodically revise minimum wages' — that regulation has not been issued and the Wage Board has not set a binding national rate as of 2026-07-15. Minimums exist only within the public sector (federal civil service floors, reportedly raised to ~ETB 6,000/month in Sep 2025) and via sectoral/collective agreements; those are not national statutory floors and are not published here as the national value. The ILO has been supporting minimum-wage-setting discussions. Monitor the Ministry of Labour and Skills (mols.gov.et) and the Federal Negarit Gazeta — adoption of the Wage Board regulation is the event most likely to change this record.
