What this value means

Burkina Faso has NO national central bank and NO national policy rate. Monetary policy is set for the whole Union Economique et Monetaire Ouest-Africaine (UEMOA/WAEMU) by the BCEAO Comite de Politique Monetaire in Dakar; the identical rate applies in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. At its ordinary meeting of 4 March 2026 the CPM cut the principal policy rate by 25 basis points from 3.25% to 3.00%, and the marginal lending window rate from 5.25% to 5.00%, both effective 16 March 2026. The required-reserve coefficient stays at 3.0%. The CPM met again on 10 June 2026 and held both rates unchanged (3.00% / 5.00%), so 3.00% is the live rate on the last_confirmed date. Independently cross-checked against BCEAO's own weekly auction notices, which state the operative rate on their face: the notice for the 8 June 2026 weekly/monthly injection auction (avis n.23/H/2026, 06/M/2026 and 06/OdR/2026) reads 'Le taux minimum de soumission aux appels d'offres hebdomadaire et mensuel est fixe a 3,0000%, principal taux directeur de la BCEAO'. This value and effective_from reconcile exactly with the Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal files in this dataset, as they must - it is one rate, not three. MEMBERSHIP CAVEAT, verified: Burkina Faso (with Mali and Niger) withdrew from ECOWAS/CEDEAO in January 2025 as part of the Alliance des Etats du Sahel (AES), but that withdrawal did NOT affect UEMOA/BCEAO membership. Burkina Faso remains a full member of the monetary union, keeps the XOF (franc CFA), and remains subject to BCEAO monetary policy; BCEAO continues to publish Burkina Faso auctions and statistics as a member state. Access note: bceao.int is reachable and serves French-language HTML plus PDF communiques; the CPM communique is also mirrored as a PDF under /sites/default/files/2026-03/.
