What this value means
Read off the scanned original decree published by the Ministere de la Fonction publique, du Travail et de la Protection sociale, not from press reports. TWO-TIER MATRIX - the served value is the general (non-agricultural) floor, per the convention of serving the lowest general statutory floor and decomposing the matrix here. Art. 2 (all workers OTHER than those of agricultural undertakings, excluding persons on an apprenticeship contract): hourly 259.62 XOF; monthly 45,000 XOF. Art. 3 (workers of agricultural undertakings as defined by the regulations in force, again excluding apprentices) - the SMAG: hourly 239.69 XOF; daily rate for an 8-hour day 1,917.52 XOF. Note the agricultural schedule is stated ONLY as hourly and daily figures - the decree fixes no monthly SMAG - so the two tiers are not directly comparable on a monthly basis; at the legal 173.33-hour month the agricultural hourly rate implies roughly 41,545 XOF/month, but that arithmetic is ours, not the decree's, and is offered only for orientation. Apprentices are carved out of both tiers entirely. Art. 4 expressly repeals all prior contrary provisions, 'notamment le decret n.2006-066/PRES/PM/MTSS/MFB du 29 decembre 2006 fixant les salaires minima interprofessionnels garantis' - that repealed-instrument number is taken from the face of the 2023 decree and corrects the widely circulated but wrong citation 'decret 2006-655'. Legal basis is art. 187 of loi n.028-2008/AN du 13 mai 2008 portant Code du travail; revision runs through the tripartite Commission Nationale du SMIG, created by the companion decret n.2023-1587/PRES-TRANS/PM/MFPTPS/MEFP of the same date. ARCHAIC-VALUE HONESTY: 45,000 XOF/month is roughly 78 USD and has NOT been revised since November 2023 despite the intervening period; it remains the statutory truth and is served as such. Beware a specific contamination in circulation: some aggregator pages state a Burkinabe SMIG of 'about 60,000 FCFA' - that figure has no decree behind it and is wrong. Access note: the two decree PDFs on fonction-publique.gov.bf are image-only scans with no text layer and had to be rendered and read visually; they are linked from a TYPO3 news page whose URL carries a cHash parameter and may not be stable.
