What this value means
PRIMARY-VERIFIED: the May 2026 bulletin PDF was independently downloaded and its text layer extracted at verification. Tableau 1 gives, for mai-26: indice global 104,0 (base 2022 = 100); variation mensuelle +1,2%; glissement annuel -2,3% (the figure served here); taux d'inflation -3,7%. The resume confirms the m/m rise is driven by 'Produits alimentaires et boissons non alcoolisees' (+2,6%). Latest period available on 20 July 2026 is May 2026. Chad's headline 'taux d'inflation' is defined as the 12-month moving-average change and stood at -3,7% in May 2026 - a DIFFERENT measure from the year-on-year rate and the one most Chadian press reports quote; it is documented here rather than blended. On the year-on-year measure the glissement annuel has been negative in every month of Tableau 1 from June 2025 (-3,4%) onward; on the 12-month-average measure Chad turned negative in September 2025 (-0,2%). The deflation is driven by collapsing cereal prices: 'Pains et cereales' -21,2% y/y in May 2026, 'Huiles et graisses' -16,1%, against sharp rises in meat (+13,8%) and fish (+16,6%). The index covers eight cities (N'Djamena, Moundou, Abeche, Sarh, Doba, Mongo, Am-Timan, Bol), 634 varieties, 1,660 outlets, weights from ECOSIT5 (2022); INSEED publishes at most 15 days after the reference month. ACCESS QUIRK: INSEED replaced its old Joomla site with a JavaScript single-page app in 2026; www.inseed.td serves only an empty React shell to non-browser clients and the legacy /images/... bulletin files now 404. The bulletins are reachable only through the site's undocumented JSON API at https://inseed.ssn-tchad.td/api/publications (paginated; PDFs under /api/uploads/publications/). Bulletins are text-layer PDFs in French with an Arabic masthead, and carry a broken xref table that some PDF parsers must repair before extraction.
