What this value means
The Central African Republic has NO national policy rate. Monetary policy is set union-wide by BEAC for all six CEMAC members (Cameroon, CAR, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon); this value and effective date are identical across all six CEMAC countries. At its 2nd ordinary session of 2026 (29 June 2026, Yaounde) the Comite de Politique Monetaire cut the TIAO from 4.75% to 4.50%, cut the marginal lending facility (facilite de pret marginal) from 6.25% to 5.75%, and lowered reserve requirements from 7.00% to 6.50% on sight deposits and from 4.50% to 4.00% on term deposits. ACCESS QUIRK: both the CPM press release and Decision N°01/CPM/2026 are published on beac.int only as scanned image PDFs with no text layer (Canon scanner output, no OCR), so the numeric values could not be machine-read from the instrument itself; the 4.50% figure and the 29 June 2026 session date are corroborated by the BEAC 'Decisions de politique monetaire' index page, which lists Decision N°01/CPM/2026 of 29 June 2026 as the current rate-setting instrument. BEAC publishes no separate 'date d'entree en vigueur' on the index; effective_from is the CPM session/decision date, which is BEAC's normal practice (the following weekly appel d'offres is conducted at the new rate). Currency is the CENTRAL AFRICAN CFA franc (XAF), a legally distinct currency from the West African XOF, though both are pegged to the euro at 655.957 and issued under separate French Treasury guarantee arrangements. CITATION MECHANICS (2026-08-07): beac.int serves current CPM documents from REUSED filename slots under /wp-content/uploads/2016/10/ — the folder marks when the media entry was first created, not the document's date, and the slot's content is OVERWRITTEN at each CPM session (the superseded document then moves to a dated filename, e.g. Communiqué-de-Presse-CPM-du-02-04-2026.pdf). The cited URL therefore always serves the LATEST decision: byte-identity checks will break at the next CPM (Q3 2026) by design, and a changed hash at this URL means a NEW decision to verify, not a broken citation. Décision N° 01/CPM/2026 read in full at this URL on 2026-08-07 (187,152 bytes): TIAO 4,75% → 4,50%; facilité de prêt marginal 6,25% → 5,75%; réserves obligatoires 7,00% → 6,50% (vue) and 4,50% → 4,00% (terme).
