MATRIX JURISDICTION. Decret n°2023/00338/PM of 21 March 2023, article 1, fixes THREE distinct SMIG figures applying throughout the national territory, with effect 'a compter de la date de signature du present decret' (21 March 2023): (a) 41,875 XAF/month for State employees governed by the Labour Code; (b) 45,000 XAF/month for the agricultural sector and assimilated activities; (c) 60,000 XAF/month for all other sectors. Tier (a) was subsequently raised to 43,969 XAF/month by Decret n°2024/0168/PM du 23 fevrier 2024 (article 1), which abrogates the contrary provisions of the 2023 decree for that category only; tiers (b) and (c) are unchanged. The value served here is 60,000 XAF/month — tier (c), the decree's residual category and the floor that binds ordinary non-agricultural private employment; it is what 'the Cameroon SMIG' means unless a narrower tier applies. The agricultural floor (45,000) and the State-employee floor (43,969) are served as named schedules: a worker covered by one of those is measured against a LOWER figure, so name the schedule rather than assume the general floor. (Until 2026-08-07 this series served 45,000 — the lowest private-sector floor — as the headline; an outside audit made the fair point that a caller asking for 'the minimum wage' and getting the agricultural carve-out would understate the floor for most workers, so the headline moved to the general tier. The underlying figures were verified correct all along.) The 2023 decree expressly abrogated Decret n°2014/2217/PM du 24 juillet 2014, under which a single SMIG of 36,270 XAF/month applied; 2023 was the first time Cameroon split the SMIG by sector. Amounts are gross monthly, XAF (Central African CFA franc), pegged to the euro at 655.957 XAF = 1 EUR.
